Turn Your Bitcoin Wallet into a Visa Prepaid Card

Isn’t it a great idea to have your own Visa prepaid card, but you add money into it with Bitcoin? Absolutely it is!

Update : Wirex stopped offering Visa card temporary. I’ll update this post as soon as they become available, but you still can use their Bitcoin wallet.

The hardest thing for me since I’m resident in Iran is to get a single debit card to be able to pay for stuff that I want to get, but you know, it’s impossible because of sanctions that are imposed on Iran by the U.S., but thanks to Bitcoin, now I’m able to use and pay for almost anything I want in the world — how is it possible?

Where Bitcoin is accepted

I’m not going to name the stores that accept Bitcoin as a payment method, but what I want to say is that the popular online stores and websites offering services do not use Bitcoin as their payment method. What services do I need?

Domain Registrars DigitalOcean Netflix Uber (when I travel abroad) Medium membership …and, other stuff that I want to pay for

You see, Bitcoin isn’t supported!

So, where to get my own Visa card

WireX . They just work perfectly! You need to register for an account with them and then you’ll get the following services:

A secure Bitcoin wallet Plastic Visa Card (in 3 different currencies) Virtual Visa Card ( in3 different currencies)

After you have signed up for an account with them, your Bitcoin wallet is ready to be used. In order to get your Visa prepaid card, you have to submit some more information about yourself; postal address and phone number are necessary.

If you need to get a plastic card, you have to verify your identity, but in case that a virtual one is enough (it is, for me!), you can go further without any verification process, but there are some limits which aren’t important to me. You can check the limits and see if they affect you here .

What you need to know before and after registering an account

When you log into your account, there’s a pane on the left which you can choose the one that’s right for you.

Since I’m living in Iran which isn’t supported by WireX and most of my payments are made in USD, I had to go with USD virtual card . Virtual cards don’t need any verifications and you can also enter fake information.

In step #2, you have to enter your billing address which gets connected to your card. If you’re going to enter fake information, make sure to save the entered data because you’ll need it later.

If you have ordered a virtual card, it’s become available immediately and your card info including card number , expire date , and CVC are sent to your e-mail.

Conclusion

Now that you have an account with Wirex, you can buy some Bitcoins and exchange it with dollars to [re]charge your Visa card. It’s also good to mention that the first virtual card is free with Wirex, but if you need to get more than one card later, you must pay $3 (or the equivalent in £ or €).
